Our old friends and regular end-users of our tools, Doosan Babcock, once again put some of their staff through our ‘Train the Trainer’ course at our Aberdeen HQ in fourth week of July. This particular course has been specially developed for Doosan from a range of training components available which ensures the optimal use of our tools at the company’s various sites throughout the UK. Doosan uses EqualizerTM flange maintenance tools for shutdowns and turnarounds, maintenance and projects within the oil, gas & petrochemical, thermal and nuclear industries in which the company operates.
In addition to this being the second time the organisation has sent a group consisting of mechanical fitters, pipefitters and riggers to our purpose-built training suite, Doosan has also made use of our custom-built trailer which travels around the UK with Steve Gerrity, our Sales Engineer (UK, Norway & Sweden) to provide hands on product demonstrations to companies upon request.
The trailer contains a mobile training rig to demonstrate the full range of EqualizerTM tools and has visited Doosan’s Grangemouth refinery, nuclear power plants at Torness, Hunterston and Heysham 1 and 2 along with several other sites, being well received each time. During their visit to our Aberdeen facility, Steve showed the course delegates the benefits of the trailer and rig in giving end-users the opportunity to see the products in a ‘real life’ scenario.
Both the fixed demo suite and the mobile training rig allow end-users the experience first-hand how quick, simple and easy to use the tools are to apply and use on a series of custom-built flanges.

NEWS: Special visit from Specialised Force and Kennards Hire to global experts in flange maintenance solutions, Equalizer International
Above left to right: Ian McCormick, Peter Luczail, John Morgan, Mike Grima, Andrew Lambert, Bob Stephen
We were delighted when Mike Grima of Specialised Force, our authorised Australian stockist and distributor, paid us a special visit at our Aberdeen HQ in Scotland this month (July). Mike was holidaying in Ireland with his wife, Jean, when they popped across with another couple of visitors, Andrew Lambert and Peter Luczail of Kennards Hire, one of Australia's largest and most respected hire companies.
While Jean took in the sights of Royal Deeside Mike, Andrew and Peter had a tour around our purpose built workshop and training facilities and spent time with our three directors Ian, Bob and John, learning more about the full EqualizerTM rangeof mechanical and hydraulic tools.
Mike is well-versed in our products but, being the professional he is, he still took part as Operations and Training Director, Bob Stephen, provided a hands-on demonstration of the flange spreader, flange alignment and flange pulling tools in our demo and training suite. Using the tools on our custom built flange pipework gave our visitors valuable experience on operating the tools safely along with providing a greater understanding of how the different types of tools work separately and in various combinations with each other.
On a final note – thanks for the pizza, Mike! It was much appreciated by everyone.
NEWS: Equalizer International launches Wind Turbine Tower Alignment Tool
Equalizer International, global expert in flange maintenance tools, is delighted to announce the launch of the latest innovative product, the TFA15TI Wind turbine Tower Alignment tool. This is an Integral Hydraulic alignment tool which has been developed to aid the alignment of large flanges on the inside of wind turbine towers. In the tradition of all EqualizerTM products, it will make the assembly and installation of wind turbine tower sections simpler, safer and more efficient.
Equalizer was approached by the company’s Danish distributor, Hytor, who had been asked by major European wind turbine manufacturing company, Siemens, if there was a product on the market that could be used to align the flanges in wind turbine towers. As there wasn’t, Hytor, aware of Equalizer’s skill and experience, asked if a new product could be produced. The result was the TFA15TI – a product going from concept to delivery in less than 10 weeks.
Wind turbine towers are made up of pipe sections with internal bolted flange connections and sometimes during fabrication these sections can become ovalised. This can result in misalignment of the bolt holes, so assembly becomes slow, difficult and dangerous. This new TFA15TI addresses this misalignment issue and is a further example of the innovative approach Equalizer addresses industry challenges.
NEWS: Why SWi?
Equalizer International’s SWi range has set the new standard for powerfully, effi ciently, effectively and safely spreading fl ange joints.
The new range of tools has been created with the same customer focussed philosophy as employed with all Equalizer International products.
The SWi Practical Difference
Lighter tools – the SWi tools are on average lighter than the SW spreaders, and are therefore easier to carry on-site and to use.
Better handle grips – the SWi now comes with a reinforced composite handle making it easier to grip, hold and use.
Fully rotational handle – the handle now swivels 360-degrees around the wedge head, so that the SWi tools can be used in a wide range of awkward scenarios.
The SWi Functional Difference
Unrivalled power - the tools now offer up to 25T of spreading force, which provides additional confi dence when spreading, either on large or medium sized fl anges (for the SWi20/25TE or SWi20/25TI) or smaller ones (SWi12/14TM).
Narrower jaws - the SWi tools are 8% narrower than the SW range to help them fi t more easily between fl ange bolts.
Wider spreading - using the supplied Stepped Block accessories mean the SWi range offer up to 30% more fl ange spreading distance than a standard SW tool.
Safety blocks - designed to suit the step sizes of the SWi tools, the supplied safety blocks even accommodate the wider spreading offered when the stepped blocks are fi tted.
Easier maintenance – end-users will appreciate the ease with which the tools can be maintained. The supplied hex-key and a two step-process is all that’s required to disassemble and reassemble the tools.
The SWi Safety Difference
Safer working – the 360-degree swivel lanyard on all SWi tools enables users to attach the spreader to some adjacent pipework, mitigating potential dropped object injury.
No pinch points – the SWi range of tools has been engineered to overcome fi nger pinch-points.
Six reasons why Equalizer products are superior to cheaper imitations:
Engineering Principles - Our tools are professionally designed and built under the strictest controls, ensuring the quality and reliability that can only come from a comprehensive design process.
Manufacturing Processes - Equalizer tools comprise forged components as their key structural elements, for uncompromised tool strength and user safety.
Materials & Traceability - Equalizer’s Quality Management System has been approved by Lloyd’s Register Quality
Assurance as meeting the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 thereby offering product quality, reliability and safety.
Safety & Compliance - Our tools have been designed and manufactured to comply with the various European and Global directives and carry the corresponding CE marks.
Support, Training & Spare Parts - Buying a genuine Equalizer Tool provides access to our renowned support and training but also provides peace-of-mind that comes from our replacement parts service and 3-Year Warranty.
Intellectual Property - Equalizer International prides itself on its R&D and we actively protect our 60 active patents, trade-marks and design registrations.
